Founder Question hoof help?

I believe they mean hot around the band where the hoof meets the fur - although that could also be caused by other things. I saw a foundered horse once, and it was pretty obvious - her legs were all swollen and she was in obvious pain. Founder can be caused by injury, but I think the most common and preventable cause is rich food. What you want to avoid is too much grain (and how much is too much wil depend on your horse and his particular needs), too much rich spring grass (when the grass is first coming in, I keep feeding my horses hay so they don't gorge on the grass right away) and definitely don't give them piles of grass clippings. Hope that helps!
