I have ethnic hair, how should I get blond tips?

I recently got my hair cut in a mohawk with spikes at the top, the cut I love, the color, not so much. I did a bright red rinse a few months ago, now that the color has faded, I want to do something light for the summer. I am thinking of bleaching my tips to give my hair a funky look, what other avenues should I take?
